About the movie

The Brutalist is a 2024 epic period drama film directed and produced by Brady Corbet, from a screenplay he co-wrote with Mona Fastvold. Set in the aftermath of World War II, it follows László Tóth, a Jewish-Hungarian architect and Dachau survivor who emigrates to the United States hoping to rebuild his life, reunite with his wife Erzsébet, and pursue his radical architectural vision in a new land.
Settling in Pennsylvania, László attracts the attention of wealthy industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren, who commissions him to design an ambitious community center and other projects that will shape the emerging modern American landscape. As their partnership deepens, antisemitism, class tensions, artistic compromise, and personal traumas corrode László’s ideals, pushing his marriage, his health, and his moral boundaries toward devastating consequences that mirror the cracks beneath the American dream.
